Good manga, Terrible translation

The manga alone should get a 9/10, but the terrible translations make reading this a painful experience. The translator, on his desire to be as japanese as possible, instead of translating several tittles/names, that should be translated in order to keep the original meaning, leaves then in Japanese, destroying the reader's experience.

translation is lacking

good art, same story as all the others, slower paced: translation is lacking (or possibly the script is radically different from the version drawn by Ishida Akira). Given the two versions are by the same author, I'm assuming that the groups translating make a big difference.

Meh. I like the Ishida Akira version better.

I still can't believe there's FIVE different versions of this story in manga form! From what I've read so far the story is the same, just some slight different wording but the most noticable difference is the art work. I personally prefer the art style of Ishida Akira which has a more vivid and vibrant style than this version. I'd say that if you're interested in reading this because of the story then read that version rather than this one.

Now this may just be me who's been having weird dreams or something, but honestly i think not, anyway, recently (today for me) this series apears to have been restarted, I would like to ask the rest of the community if it is only to me that it seems this way, or if it actually has. To be honest though the new version seems better in writing as there is less of the childish attitude in the style, though still it has the abyssmal tendency of not naming the characters it seems.

Economics has never been more alluring

This is like Spice and Wolf except the main characters are introducing advanced crops and technologies to villagers of a poor country. Oh, there's also a human-demon war for supremacy of the continent. Demons are humanized so it's not like man versus the forces of Satan. Oh, did i mention the 2nd main character is the Demon Queen who's introducing the inventions to revolutionize the world economy so that the great war could be ended? There's magic, too.

In short, a wackier version of Spice and Wolf with infusions of fantasy action and the character decisions would affect entire nations.

Unlike most common shounen which have a little amount of writing and a massive amount of either comedy and or action, this manga contains some gags, a massive amount of monologue, and next to no amount of action. I'm not trying to drive, it is a good series in it's own way, sort of like spice and wolf. it's definitely something out of my routine manga so i will keep reading and see if it gets any better.

Just loved what I have read so far!

I first noticed this kind of genre when I read (and watched) Ookami to Koushinryou and I found that I liked it. I love stories that make you think and specially where you need to follow the information that you're given to understand part of the plot and, if you want some sort of convincement, this is the first time I am reading a manga where I did not get tired while reading extensive dialogues. At some point I took from 2 - 6 minutes while reading a single page just to try to understand what I was being told (even in Spice & Wolf I grew tired or confused of what they were talking about sometimes). I also found out that the characters being named "Female Knight" or "Red Scholar" is quite original or even funny and it does reflect the "reality" of medieval european/japanese history, where people were named after what they did as a living or the places they lived.

The combination of deep knowledge and innocent love humour makes it also enjoyable. I would recommend that you give this story a chance.

Brainy-ness as comedy

Personally I think what makes this manga great IS the long winded talks. I like stories, be it manga, novels, movies, tv, etc, that make you think, but I like this one especially, because it juxtaposes higher thinking into a society, and more importantly into an entire genre where it isn't normally present. Seeing the reaction of these "stock characters" when there slapped in the face with the reality of their situations is just great imho.

Spice and Wolf + Dragon Quest I

What happens if you take an old-school NES RPG premise seriously and apply medieval European political history and economics to it? Add one moemoe know-it-all monster queen and a hero who literally wants to save the world and you've got this series.

It's a little monologue-y but it also has to establish everything from the ground up since it's subverting a lot of RPG cliches too. It's a promising start so far.
